A pornography company has been handed a £1.35 million fine by Britain’s media regulator after it failed to put age verification measures in place for users accessing its platform.
Ofcom confirmed on Monday that 8579 LLC had been penalised under the UK’s new online safety regime, which requires adult content sites to take steps to prevent children from accessing material. The regulator added a further £50,000 to the total penalty after the company failed to respond to an information request, bringing the combined fine to £1.4 million.
The action against 8579 LLC is part of Ofcom’s broader enforcement push under its new online safety powers, with the regulator signalling that companies operating adult platforms in the UK will face financial consequences for failing to comply with age check requirements.
